Normally it costs 200 dollars a day to cross into Bhutan. Instead we went to Jaigon in India from where it's possible to visit Bhutan for the afternoon for free. It was an interesting pitstop into some of the culture of Bhutan.
In the centre of town there is a beautiful monastery that is intricately painted.
Locals wear actually wearing the traditional dress (Kho).
This lovely man just came up and asked for a photo with us, he was a cheeky chap who had left his platform shoes at home.
Claire got sprung taking this photo, the lady on the left is using a prayer wheel.
Men were in the park playing Khuru (a field size cross between darts and petonque).
....and sing alot whilst dancing, drinking, and avoiding being hit by darts whilst intentionally goading the inflight darts to hit them.
Very Macho.
Archery was the next big Sunday afternoon activity....
.... Closely followed by beer drinking. An obvious association as this advert asserts.
Everything in town seems to sell booze. A typical border town.
Even the cement shop sells booze.
The alley ways don't smell.
A hint of AIDS education.
We went to a beautiful monastery where there were stunning views of Bhutan and views back across the plains into India.
These lovely ladies grabbed Claire and took her into the monastery where thirty monks were playing music and chanting. They threw themselves on the floor and prayed dramatically, while Claire looked like a lemon feeling weird. They soon rescued her and we got to see how they play the trumpets and drums during meditation.
This was on a building outside the monastery , no mincing with works.
Bhutan was an excellent afternoon out even if we couldn't afford to crap.
